Please ensure that you are fit and well enough for your visit. Please check the weather forecast before leaving and ensure you are adequately prepared for the weather conditions. You do need to be able to walk/stand unaided and please advise us of any particular needs regarding mobility or health that we should be aware of
PLEASE DON’T ARRIVE MORE THAN 15 MINS PRIOR TO YOUR SLOT
Please ensure that children are supervised AT ALL TIMES. They are your responsibility whilst on our farm. Please discourage them from climbing on fences. We will let you know which animals can be fed, but please only feed them the food that we supply.
Please ensure that we are aware of any dietary requirements when you book so we can ensure you are catered for. Homemade cake and refreshments are included as part of your visit.
Please wear sensible footwear – no open toed sandals or flip flops. Please also dress according to the English weather and bear in mind that it is often a degree or 2 colder here and often quite breezy, due to our position at the top of a hill. In early summer we are often visited by horseflies. They prefer the animals to us but if you react to insect bites it might be worth wearing insect repellent or bringing after bite cream. WE HAVE VERY LITTLE SHADE HERE SO WHEN IT IS HOT IT IS HOT. SUNHATS AND SUNCREAM AND INSECT REPELLENT IS ADVISED
If you need to rearrange your booking for any reason please give us as much notice as possible. We are happy to move your booking to a different date up until 7 days before the event. After this point we are unable to provide any refunds or exchanges unless we can fill your place but we will do our utmost to advertise spaces on our website and facebook page.
Working with animals can sometimes be unpredictable! We will do our best to match you with an alpaca that suits your confidence/ability but sometimes they surprise us! Alpacas will occasionally kick, so we will remind you not to walk behind or next to their back legs. Alpacas can also spit – but as this is a defence mechanism, and all our walking alpacas are very used to visitors, this hasn’t happened so far! They do often “air blow” at each other which can be confused as a spit. All of this will be explained. You will be shown how to hold the lead and how best to walk them.
Alpacas appreciate calm and gentle handling. They are very inquisitive, gentle animals, who will happily feed from your hand, but don’t really enjoy being stroked. Ours are trained to walk on a halter and lead and will tolerate touch, but don’t take much pleasure from it, unlike domestic animals. This doesn’t mean they aren’t tame. This is just alpaca nature.
